Metric Attributes

1. Definition: A metrics needs to have a clear definition. This is a prerequisite that data can be collected and the quality can be measured. Further it provides the basis for a shared understanding.

2. Relevance: The relevance of a metric can be measured statistically regarding how it correlates with winning or other important aspects of the game. Relevant metrics are able to provide answers that all hockey experts try to answer as well such as if it was a deserved win or not.

3. Actionability: Metrics must provide actionable insights that can inform coaching decisions, player evaluations, and game strategies. The more actionable a metric is, the better it can be included in the processes of coaches, scouts and general managers.
