Game Situation Analytics

Attack Scenarios

Attack Scenarios follow a puck possession sequence and classify the Attack Scenario for each Shot attempt.

Attack scenarios provide a way to make advanced stats more actionable by separating different patterns on how teams generate own or allow opponent output:

1. Off the Rush: Shot attempts within 5 seconds after entering the offensive zone (OZ).

2. Off the OZ Forecheck: Shot attempts within 5 seconds after puck retrieval in the OZ.

3. Off Sustained OZ Puck Possession: Shot attempts after 5 seconds of OZ puck possession.

4. Off the OZ Face-Off: Shot attempts within 5 seconds after a face-off in the offensive zone.

Transition Analytics

Transition data follows a puck possession sequence and classifies the start and the end Zone of a sequence starting with the retrieval of a neutral puck.

Transition Analytics provide a way to make advanced stats more actionable by separating different patterns on how teams are able to retrieve and transition the game:

1. Breakout: What does a team create and give up from puck retrievals in their defensive zone (DZ). This data includes the puck retrieval share as well as the share of controlled exists and controlled OZ entries. Further it provides data about created own and allowed opponent output.

2. Neutral Zone Transition: What does a team create and give up from puck retrievals in the neutral zone (NZ). This data includes the puck retrieval share as well as the share of controlled OZ entries. Further it provides data about created own and allowed opponent output.

3. Forecheck: What does a team create and give up from puck retrievals in the OZ. This data includes the puck retrieval share as well as created own and allowed opponent output.
